Global Impact: Centre for Responsible Tourism Singapore Joins Learn Tourism
The Centre for Responsible Tourism Singapore (CRTS) has officially chosen to host its Responsible Tourism courses with Learn Tourism, the nonprofit academy dedicated to building a better tourism industry through accessible, effective education.
CRTS, led by sustainability expert Kevin Phun, has been a pioneer in promoting responsible travel throughout Southeast Asia. Despite having deeply valuable content, the organization faced one of the most common challenges in online learning: visibility and learner engagement. With limited enrollments despite best efforts, Kevin knew it was time for a change.
“I started a portal of online responsible tourism courses during the pandemic. Only four or five people found my courses in the last four years,” Kevin shared. “I was spending $150 a month on LMS fees and Instagram ads that led nowhere.”
That’s where Learn Tourism came in.
As a nonprofit learning platform created by and for tourism professionals, Learn Tourism offers CRTS—and every instructor it partners with—a cost-free, high-impact way to share expertise with a global audience. With over 10,000 weekly visitors, enterprise-level LMS technology, multilingual support, and marketing partnerships with more than 60 destinations worldwide, Learn Tourism ensures courses don’t just exist—they thrive.
Kevin is now bringing his library of responsible tourism courses to Learn Tourism’s catalog. This transition saves CRTS hundreds annually in technology costs, eliminates the burden of solo promotion, and ensures his expertise reaches the learners and changemakers who need it most.
This partnership also amplifies global sustainability efforts. By combining CRTS's deep-rooted knowledge of ecotourism and Southeast Asian practices with Learn Tourism’s reach and infrastructure, more professionals worldwide will gain the tools they need to create meaningful, ethical travel experiences.
“It makes sense. The more people can learn, the better off we all are,” says Learn Tourism cofounder Stephen Ekstrom.
Together, CRTS and Learn Tourism are making responsible travel education more accessible, affordable, and impactful than ever.
